This
blog post was inspired by an item on www.beliefnet.com/inspiration, and
covers a very important yet often overlooked aspect of our lives – synchronicity
– which has seven characteristics according to the article:
- Synchronicity is Meaningful
Suppose
you haven’t thought of an old college friend in years, but run across his name
while tidying up your email address book. Later that day, you receive an email
from him telling you that he is now following you on Twitter. This may be
telling you that you both still have something of value to offer one another.
- Synchronicity is entwined with our emotions
Suppose the death certificate of a loved one reads 5:30 a.m. and a clock stops at that exact time and never runs again. This After-Death Communication points to the emotional connection between you and your loved one. (Probably the most famous example of this is the story of Bishop Pike, bishop of Grace Cathedral, San Francisco, whose son suicided by drug overdose. The bishop wrote a book about how he contacted his son through a medium and the Episcopalian Church banned him from ever teaching in any church. He died in 1969 in the Middle East, looking for the desert where Jesus was tempted by the devil.)
- Synchronicity Is an Intuitive Phenomenon
Suppose you have a hunch that you should drive down a particular road, even though it’s not the way you usually go to work, and you later discover there was a huge traffic tie-up on your usual route. Pat yourself on the back. Honoring this form of premonition improves the chances of it happening more frequently in your life.
- Synchronicity is Creative
Suppose you’re writing an article and are having trouble. Take a break and do something different. Later, maybe in a conversation with a friend, you may get a sudden insight that resolves your problem. It’s important that you stay open to receiving such inspiration, regardless of its source.
- Synchronicity comes in Clusters
Synchronicity
shows up in the form of numbers, names, words, objects or symbols. Suppose
you see the time 5:55 on your coffee maker, then you go out and see a car with ‘555’
on its registration plate. And all day, ‘555’ keeps cropping up. Pay attention to
this – it’s a clear sign from the spirit world. If you Google ‘meaning of 555,’
you learn that it specifically means change is coming for you.
- Synchronicity can have a Sense of Humor
Spirit often uses humor in the synchronicity it puts in our lives. Suppose you’re going for a job interview, and you help someone down in the parking lot, say. When you walk into the manager’s office for your interview, it’s the person you helped. Maybe this is spirit’s way of saying, ‘What goes around comes around.’
- Synchronicity can be Global
Maybe
during a natural disaster a weird cloud formation is visible to millions of
people that looks like a huge angel in the sky, and the sighting gives
survivors hope. This is spirit’s way of saying, “There’s a much larger force at
work here.’
Synchronicity
is defined as, “the meaningful coincidence of two apparently unrelated events
or circumstances.” Spirit (your guides and/or your higher self) carefully orchestrate
them in your life, so it’s important to recognize, honor and revere synchronicity
when it happens, because it shows you’re part of something much larger, and
that unseen hands are guiding your life.
