We hear a lot about freak deaths, but here’s a recent story about a freak survivor. A 57-year-old Ohio guy is gassing up his truck when an out-of-control van hits him hard and knocks him to the ground. The van then hits two gas pumps, knocking them over on top of the guy, pinning him underneath them. The quarter-ton pumps then catch fire as the guy lies trapped beneath them.
If this had happened when no one else was around, it’s is an obituary waiting to happen, but four people then rush up, one carrying a fire extinguisher. While he’s putting the fire out, the other three struggle to pull the guy out from under the pumps. After 30 long seconds, he’s free … amazingly suffering only a few scratches.
Any one of three things could have killed the guy – hit by the van, crushed under the heavy pumps, burned alive by the fire – but it was not his day to die, not an exit point.
Don’t you love it when that happens?
