Looked at on the surface, the events I described in the previous post would appear that Louie was the “victim” of a random event – an aggressive cancer – that swooped down on him and took his life. So he would appear to be the tragic but innocent victim of fate.
And that’s how most people would see such an event. BUT, when you look behind the scenes, you see a totally different picture – one of careful planning and great mastery on his part. When he knew it was time to leave, according to his pre-life planning, he chose the most effective and least costly (to me) strategy he could.
A swift, sudden and untreatable illness gave me no time to grieve in advance or incur huge vet bills, as would have happened in the event of a protracted illness or being hit by a car, say. There, the cost of tests, x-rays, etc., would have run into the thousands, and treatment, the tens of thousands. The vet told me a course of chemo typically costs $15,000, which Louie knew I could never afford. So he neatly sidestepped those outcomes.
Also, his strategy avoided lengthy personal pain for him, focusing it all into the last few days, which he bore stoically until his body could no longer function, and it became obvious something was very wrong with him. Yes, it took bravery and a stout heart, but he has those in spades. In fact, I used to call him a “valiant little bugger.”
His timing was also impeccable. I had little work on my plate during Christmas week, so could give him all the time and attention he needed, and he didn’t impact my schedule in the least. January will be a crazy month for me, with two cataract surgeries planned, and starting a new discussion group for my latest book The Other Side and the Death Without Fear Radio show. So, again mastery at work.
All in all, he and his spirit guides showed supreme and active mastery in his exit, rather than passive victimhood. This in turn teaches us a tremendous amount about the animal kingdom – that at the soul level, they are as much in control of their destiny as we are of ours in the human kingdom, and that they dovetail the two kingdoms together for maximum effectiveness of learning for everyone.
This was also reflected in the circumstances under which he came into my life. He and Shiva made a spirit agreement to be together, so it then became Louie’s job to mastermind our meeting in a way that could have only the intended outcome. One day, Joy (my mate at the time) and I were driving to Louie’s Nursery (which is where his name came from, of course) to buy plants, and we saw a one-year-old puppy running down the road alongside our truck. We were close to a freeway exit, so it was clear he’d been dumped by someone who no longer wanted an ex-cute puppy.
Joy wanted me to stop then and there, but I said, “If
he follows us into the nursery, it’s clear he’s meant to be with us.” Well, he
did, so we got him some water and put him in the truck. He was fast asleep on
our return with our purchases. On arriving at our home, he immediately took over the back yard and Shiva's life was never the same again.
We advertised in the local paper's Pets Lost and Found classifieds but no one came forward. Of course they wouldn’t have done because he was destined to be ours as Shiva’s companion. How he timed being on that stretch of road exactly when we were driving down it is a masterstroke of spirit guidance in action, the planning of which takes my breath away to this day. But then, I expect no less from the higher dimensions. And the fact he’s already channeling back to me and my friends shows great awareness of what’s still happening in the world he left behind.
Bottom line: I developed a whole new respect for our animal friends, and never take them for granted. They are never just mere “dogs” or “cats” but souls in bodies, just as we are. Humbling, eh? And a story that brings hope and reassurance to any grieving pet owner.
And he and his guides knew that with my fascination in this subject, and my books, websites and blogs, and new radio show (details in the next post), his story would be told worldwide, bringing great insight and comfort to anyone who reads or hears about it, giving his passing even greater meaning.
By the way, the story of how Shiva came to be in our lives is even more miraculous and shows a level of planning and mastery off the scale, but that’s a story for another day.
Tony,
I remember Louie quite well and Shiva too. The first time I saw the two of them, I was intimidated! They were both so big and so fierce looking, their gaze direct and intense, really, it was a bit overwhelming to encounter! But, very soon after I walked into your home they decided that I was acceptable - I somehow passed the test that Louie and Shiva put to every person that walked through your door. What I did to earn their approval I cannot say, I can say, however, that spending time with them, getting to know them, and encountering their great and incredible loving energies has been, and will continue to be, a tremendous honor and privilege to me.
I have thought of both of them from time to time over the past seven years since I last saw them - and always fondly.
You were very blessed indeed to have had Louie in your life and he was equally as blessed to have had you in his.
I will continue to remember Louie with great fondness and I take comfort in the knowledge that you are aware that spiritually, he is with you still.
May your memories of Louie fill your heart and soul with much comfort, peace, and joy,
Christine Toomey

Humanity will reach the highest levels of consciousness when we can live with the unconditional love, joy and compassion that our beloved pets live and teach us every day.
There is no way to mask the pain of losing a pet, but to know they are healthy and still in communication with us is a beautiful start. Thank you so much for sharing Louie with all of us!
